The purpose of this course is to provide education to respiratory therapists and nurses in identifying the signs and symptoms of chronic respiratory failure. A review of respiratory functions will be given as well as a study of qualitative and quantitative assessments to help clinicians determine if patients meet diagnostic criteria for respiratory failure.

Ron Hosp began his career in respiratory care in 1976 performing respiratory diagnostics as a aeromedical specialist. On the job training became available while performing respiratory care treatments. I attended respiratory therapy programs at State Fair Community College, Sedalia, MO and Baptist Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. After earning my RRT credential, I completed studies to obtain a bachelor’s in science, at Drury College, Springfield, MO, and a master’s in science at Baptist University, Bolivar, MO. I have worked in about every aspect of the respiratory profession including, acute, post-acute, education, sales, and clinical specialty training for Philips-Respironics in invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
